Connie Carpenter-Phinney and Davis Phinney are two of America’s most decorated and celebrated cyclists. She won 12 U.S. National Championships. He was the second American to ever win a stage at the Tour de France and was a fan favorite, as well as a force to be reckoned with, during the now defunct Coors Classic.
This fall Rapha is celebrating the couple with special edition jerseys. The release comes on the anniversary of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where Connie won a Gold medal at the first ever women’s Olympic Road Race, and Davis took fifth in the Men’s Road Race and a Bronze in the Team Time Trial.
The jerseys, which go on sale September 5, were designed in conjunction with Connie and Davis, pulling designs from the their old race kits. American eagle medallions add a special touch to the rear zipper pulls, finished in gold on Connie’s jersey and bronze on Davis’s.
Davis, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease has established the Davis Phinney Foundation, so Rapha is donating 10 percent of the proceeds from the jerseys to support that organization, which funds medical research.
In addition to the jerseys, Rapha.cc will also be releasing a new film by Ben Ingham about the couple called Davis and Connie, which looks back at their Olympic wins and addresses life with a debilitating disease.
