I’ve noticed that lots of people these days still don’t wear a helmet. That’s a problem.

As cliches at it sounds, they’re putting their lives at risk. And for what? In 2014 you can get a safe but inexpensive helmet. All the lids sold in the United States have to adhere to the same criteria for crash safety standards, which means a $40 dollar helmet meets the same crash standards as a helmet that costs four or five times that much.

The price difference in helmets is a result of other design features like weight. A $340 helmet will almost certainly weigh a lot less than a helmet that’s under $100. More expensive helmets are usually more comfortable, have better air flow and are significantly more aerodynamic.

The key to finding the right helmet is shopping around. Try a bunch on because fit is key. Then figure out what you’re willing to pay for.
