Six French climbers died Tuesday near Mont Blanc, bringing the total number of deaths in this area over the past month to 14.
The deaths are raising concerns about the high numbers of people climbing in the area, some of whom might not be prepared. We had the chance to hike around on the glacier below Mont Blanc this past June and had never seen so many people climbing in one concentrated area.
In another telling statistic, the search and rescue team that responds to accidents in the Mont Blanc area is thought to be the busiest in the world. Just last year they helped 860 people in need.
