Review: ABUS Bordo Lite 6050

Here’s the best way to summarize this lock—if you’re looking for maximum security, then the ABUS Bordo Lite 6050 is not for you. If you’re looking for more flexibility than a U-lock offers, but more protection than a standard cable lock, then the Bordo Lite is perfect.

Weighing in at 1.43lbs, the the lock is lighter and substantially more compact than my U Lock. It offers a cool folding design with six rubber coated steel plates (5mm thick) that are attached by rivets and secured by a locking plate at the top. In addition to the lock, you get a compact holder that will attach to your bike via two Velcro straps.

The folding design gives you almost the same flexibility as a cable lock, allowing you to string the lock through your frame and wheel at the same time. The rubber coated steel plates do create piece of mind if you’re only away from your bike for a bit.

I would suggest people use the Bordo Lite 6050 as a secondary lock if you’re in a place where bikes are regularly stolen. If you’re cruising around Old Town Pasadena or out in Joshua Tree National Park, then you’re probably fine with the Bordo Lite 6050 as your only piece of theft prevention.
